I've not felt good about celebrating The Melbourne Cup for some years now. Cut to a couple weeks ago, I listened to Rachel Griffiths interview on Mia Freedman's podcast NoFilter. I'm rethinking my attitude .. a little. Rachel Griffiths directed the movie, Ride Like A Girl. Rachel makes a very compelling and valid point that whole Australian communities would be destitute and wiped out if there was no racing - real people, real lives. So let's hope that the immense public awareness surrounding the dark side of the sport, keep the folks honest. Moving on to the more frivolous side of the whole schbang .... quick tips, inspiration and the rules for Melbourne Cup Carnival 🐎
Stylish. Black and White.
Keep makeup simple, pair with a banging red lip.
I love Kylies Professional Xtreme Runway lipstick in Fever.

Colour, colour, colour, Fun, bright, - even neon - bold tones. And yes, you can definitely wear a little sparkle and shimmer.
High sheen skin and a soft, neutral smokey eye.
For high sheen skin buff a little Ere Perez Natural Cosmetics Vanilla Highlighter in Falling Star onto the high points of your cheekbones, cupids bow, collarbones, shoulders.

Feminine, pretty and a soft. Think ruffles, pastel tones and delicate florals.
Embrace the Summer trends of pastel makeup. A wash of pastel pink through your eye, a strong pop of pinky peachy blush and a slick of gloss or full coverage pink-toned lip.
Soft pastel pink is an easy colour to wear, and work on most complexions. I like the ease of mii cosmetics Forever Eye Crayon in Sorbet. Soft, shimmery baby pink.

And do you really need to wear a Fascinator?
I can't bear them. So I'd say no. But you defo have to wear something on your head.
Try a fun headband (a la Megan Gale above) - and hair clips - they are so hot this Spring/Summer season and add a little fun without looking ridiculous. Or a fabulous hat, or yes, the silly fascinators (sorry to those that love them - I know they're works of art - but they're just not for me.)
And if you're fed up with paying someone else to do your makeup every time you've a special event .. or you'd just really like to know how to make this seasons colours work for you - to enhace your features in an age relevant way, join me for your Makeup Masterclass.
