The BEST trick for opening up tired, droopy eyes. Hello Secret Weapon 4.
Droopy. Hooded. Oh-so-tired eyes. Sister, I hear you. I've been tired for 8 1/2 years - strangely coincides with the birth of my first child - and now age is compounding the droopy eye effect. I've always embraced the "clamp" - that terrifying device you see professional makeup artists waggling about. Historically I used them on others. Not on myself. Who could be bothered?
On my 40th birthday, I needed all the help I could get. This may have ben inspired by the birth of my second child ... next level exhaustion ... and in a desperate attempt to look as awake, alive and HOT as possible on my 40th birthday celebration I grabbed those eyelash curlers and boy, I loved them more than life itself.
No, it wasn't the first time, but why the flipping heck had I waited so long to make it part of my regular personal makeup regime? I mean it literally takes 6 seconds. I'm addicted. And now I'm going to attempt to persuade you to join this eye clamping brigade.
Eyelash curlers are Secret Weapon Number 4 in my series of must-have, can't live without, beauty products. Another top secret from this professional beauty insider.
Are they really necessary? Hell yes they are. But you need to invest in a good pair. Shu Umera, Kevyn Aucoin and Bobbi Brown all create amaze balls eyelash curlers (see below). Please, please, please don't bother with cheap imitations of said eyelash curlers, they just don't work. Word of warning, eye lash curlers do become a little bit of a strange, daily addiction.
The thought of eyelash curlers still making you twitch? Perhaps consider getting your eyelashes permed. Perming is just not for me, toxic perming chemicals so close to my eyeball freaks me out. Plus this mumma is struggles to keep up with all things body maintenance so lower maintenance options suit me best (eyelash curler wins for me). If you have the time to go to a beauty salon, maybe "batch" a bit of eyelash perming along with your eyebrow, lip, chin, and fufu wax. Go for it. What ever floats your boat and makes your peepers sing is A OK.
HOW TO USE AN EYE LASH CURLER (SAFELY)
1. Get up uber close to your mirror.
2. Look down.
3. Wiggle the lash curler on to your lashes, take your time, get them as close to the root of the lash as poss.
3. Look closely to make sure all your lashes are in the curler.
4. Gently "pump" the curler. Clamping can leave a nasty kink in the lash.
5. Repeat on the other eye.
I always recommend curling lashes before slicking on mascara. Mascara makes the lashes stick to the curler, putting you at risk of yanking your lashes out. Not ideal. Not recommended.
